My sister and her two small daughters (Kayliah age 5, Kennedy 18 months) make a birthday cake for Jesus on Christmas as a way of helping the girls focus on the reason for Christmas.

This year, my niece Kayliah asked her Mom, “Can we go to Jesus’ birth and talk to his parents Mary and Joseph? We need to ask them Jesus’ favorite color so we can use that color frosting on his cake.”

My heart just melted! How sweet is that? My niece showed such a beautiful gesture of wanting to make Jesus happy by including his favorite color in their cake. She could have easily chosen her favorite color, but she made it about him.

I was thinking, what if I cared that much about what Jesus wanted in my life? What if even in the little things, I asked Jesus what he wanted. What if I made all of my decisions by consulting Jesus instead of doing what was right for myself?

Ephesians 5:8-10
For you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.

Colossians 1:10
So that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;

We know the Lord wants us to please him! He makes that very clear in his Word. Perhaps we might be inspired to do so by the purity and innocence of my niece.
