I was recalling a funny experience I had on a road trip the other day. (This was pre-COVID19 so things were different.)

I was traveling to TN to visit a friend with two other girl friends. We got off on an exit with construction to grab some lunch. We finished lunch and headed back to the expressway. My girlfriend who was driving asked, “This is the right way, right? The signage is unclear.” My other girlfriend and I both agreed that this was the right way.

About 45 minutes later a deer ran out on the expressway and he hit the deer head on! We safely pulled over and I called AAA to arrange a tow truck pick up. I gave the driver our location and we patiently waited. We waited and waited and waited. Finally the driver showed up to get us.

He said, “You said you were northbound on I-75. Ladies, you are going southbound.”

Whoops! We had been so caught up in our conversation; none of us noticed that we had driven 45 minutes in the wrong direction!

Matthew 26:41
Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

1 Peter 5:8
Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Ephesians 6:18
Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

This experience made me realize how easy it is to get off track when you are distracted. Not paying attention can have drastic consequences.

Our relationship with the Lord can be the same way. Scripture tells us to watch and pray, to be sober-minded and to be alert! When we take our eyes off of God’s truth, we can very easily end up going the wrong direction and this can have dangerous consequences!

How do you ensure you are traveling the right direction? What distractions are hardest for you to ignore? Would you say you are watchful, prayerful in alert?
