Do you remember the book and movie series The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? I was reflecting on all of the beautiful lessons we learn about God from C.W. Lewis’ classic book series.

When meeting with Mr. Beaver, Lucy, the youngest girl poses a question, hoping for the promise of safety as defined by the world when she heard about Aslan the lion.

Hear these lines quoted from the book:
“Aslan is a lion-the Lion, the great Lion.” “Ooh” said Susan. “I’d thought he was a man. Is he-quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion”…”Safe?” said Mr. Beaver …”Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”

I love that, ‘Course he isn’t safe! But he’s good.’ So matter of fact, isn’t it?

God is good. Even when his ways don’t make sense, he is still good.

Even if he does deliver you from your worst fear, he is still good.

So while our adventures in following Jesus may not always be safe, we can trust that God has good plans for us.

Out of his goodness, God provides calm in the midst of the chaos.
God provides perspective when we are perplexed.
God provides peace when we are wrecked.
God provides joy in the midst of the sorrow.

God provides hope when we feel defeated.

How have you experienced God’s goodness during a scary season in your life?
